About David
I have recently moved to Penarth and currently work at Bridge Achievement Centre, a Pupil Referral Unit in Newport. Before moving to Wales, I spent two years working as a Year 7 teacher in a specialist school for autistic students in Surrey.
My experience in SEND education began as a teaching assistant in a SEND primary school, before I went on to train as a primary school teacher.
Alongside my teaching career, I have tutored four students and worked in several youth clubs, all supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
These experiences have helped me develop a flexible and individualised approach to teaching, as I understand that every young person learns differently and may need different strategies, levels of support and encouragement to reach their potential.
I have a genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their goals, whatever those goals may be. For me, tutoring is not just about improving grades or completing schoolwork; it is about helping young people develop confidence in their abilities and discover that they are capable of more than they may sometimes believe. I particularly enjoy finding ways to make learning engaging and accessible, celebrating small successes along the way and helping students develop skills that they can carry with them beyond the classroom.
I want my students to feel listened to, understood and supported, and I believe that building a positive relationship is at the heart of successful learning. Whether a student needs help catching up, developing their literacy or numeracy skills, preparing for a transition, or simply gaining confidence in their learning, I aim to create a calm and encouraging environment where they can work towards their goals at their own pace.
