About Diana
I am a Primary teacher with 12 years teaching experience. I have taught in primary schools in England and also in a British school in Europe. My experience is mainly in Key Stage 2 but I have also taught in Key Stage 1. I have also tutored a number of Key Stage 2 children on a 1:1 basis and 2 Key Stage 1 children who needed some support with English.
I studied for my History degree at the University of Hertfordshire and then went on to complete my PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University.
I currently live in Paderborn, Germany. I am teaching in a British school attached to the British Army who are based in Germany. This is my second year in Germany having taught for 5 and a half years in the UK.
Growing up I was always an avid reader. Now as an adult I still have a love of children’s literature and the experience of sharing books with children. Creating imaginary worlds is the joy of reading and the inspiration for imaginative writing and discussion. I would love to write my own children’s book one day. I took a short course in Subversive Children’s Literature which introduced me to a slightly different way of looking at how books can influence children and the purposes of reading other than for learning “how to read”. I found that studying literature this way changed the way I introduced books to my class and it transformed the attitude to reading in my classroom.
Away from school, I have my own love of learning and enjoy discovering new things. I enjoy travelling and exploring new places. In particular, I have visited a few cities whilst following the Formula 1 race season. I am a regular viewer of Formula 1 and have attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone regularly. I have also been to the Valencia, Monza and Hungarian Grand Prix in recent years and am always on the look out for another trip!
Horses have always had a special place in my life. I have adored horses since being a toddler on holiday on a farm and that has never really left me. When I was a student I shared a horse and spent time in college learning about riding and horse care. I currently don’t have any horses but I do live with my 3 cheeky dogs that have all been rescued from Cyprus.

I use the Talk for Writing approach when teaching writing. This takes the form of immersion in text, planning and boxing up writing plans, shared writing tasks and independent writing tasks. Within this structure, I also pull in aspects of grammar relevant to the genre and year group (for primary age children). Reading skills such as comprehension can be focussed on through the immersion section of the process or can be taught separately through discussion and short writing pieces or answering questions in a written form.
For adults wishing to improve their English skills, the Talk for Writing approach still works very well for developing writing skills.
