About Abi

I am a qualified secondary Maths teacher with QTS and 5 years of teaching experience, including teaching at Coombe Girls School in London. Over the years, I have worked with students across a wide range of abilities – from those who have lost confidence in Maths to high-achieving students looking to push themselves further.

One of the most rewarding parts of teaching for me is seeing a student go from saying “I can’t do this” to confidently tackling a question independently. I believe that with the right explanation, encouragement and practice, every student can make progress in Maths.

I am patient, approachable, encouraging and I take the time to understand how each student learns best. Having taught in secondary schools, I understand the demands students face and the importance of balancing strong mathematical understanding with effective exam preparation.

I support students from Year 7 through to GCSE and A-Level, whether they need to rebuild their foundations, keep up with schoolwork, prepare for exams or challenge themselves towards the highest grades.

Above all, I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing the confidence to succeed independently.

About the lesson

Every student learns differently, so my lessons are carefully tailored to the individual. I begin by identifying any gaps in knowledge and understanding, then build these skills through clear explanations, worked examples and carefully selected practice.

My teaching style is supportive, patient and structured. I break challenging topics into manageable steps and regularly check understanding, so students feel confident asking questions and are not simply memorising methods without understanding them.

For GCSE and A-Level students, I place a strong emphasis on exam-style questions, mathematical reasoning and exam technique, helping students understand exactly what questions are asking and how to approach them confidently. I can also support students with topics they are currently studying at school, homework, assessments and revision.

Most importantly, I want students to become confident and independent mathematicians. Whether a student is struggling with the foundations or aiming for the highest grades, lessons are adapted to their starting point and individual goals.
