About Christina
I tailor my lesson plans to meet the needs of my students, taking them where they are and moving them to where they need to be. I use scaffolding and explicit instruction as well as the gradual release model. I like to assess my students in the beginning to see where there are gaps and to know where my students’ strengths lie. I also believe that building a trusting relationship with my students is key, so they know I care about them and their academic journey. I want my students to feel safe to ask questions and take risks in their learning as it is messy. Failure is inevitable, but my philosophy is that the word fail stands for FAIL- “First Attempt In Learning”. I have been in education for over 20 years and believe it takes a great deal of creativity and thinking outside the box and is different for every individual. I differentiate and adapt daily.

I am a firm believer that students and people in general want to know you care and are invested in them before they feel comfortable to be vulnerable and let their guard down enough to take risks in their learning. We are all afraid of failure and looking as though we aren’t adequate. Building a foundation of trust is key. I pride myself on being able to connect with my students in a way that they are able to feel secure and confident. Once you have the relationships established, it’s much easier to hold students accountable, because they are willing to work harder since they know you care. I’m an extremely passionate educator who truly gets joy from seeing students succeed and watching them excel when they didn’t think it was possible. Over the last 20 or so years, I have taught students from many different walks of life and now they come visit me or write letters. Every year I hone my craft and learn from my students as they learn from me. I have truly found joy and purpose in teaching.
