About Lindsay
I am currently a senior undergraduate student at Rutgers University - New Brunswick majoring in Microbiology. As a student at Rutgers University, I have mentored high school students nationally to help them reach their full potential and smoothly transition to college confidently. My guidance has included: revising college application essays, helping students apply to scholarships, providing ACT/SAT study strategies in English and Math, and building time-management skills. I have tutored local high school students from all different learning styles in Biology, Chemistry, Spanish, and Algebra I. I am a fluent Spanish-speaker and currently work as an Interpreter at a local community clinic providing translation and interpretation services for Spanish-speaking patients. I have done very well in my Microbiology coursework often peer tutoring fellow classmates in subjects such as in: General Biology, Molecular Genetics, Microbiome and Health, General Microbiology, and Environmental Microbiology. Being a skilled writer, I will ensure all students are able to dissect their English papers starting from outlining their ideas, building a strong thesis statement, close-reading to find evidence to substantiate their argument, and being concise and persuasive.
My main goal is simple. By establishing a positive and supportive session, I would like to provide students with the tools and instruments to not improve their grades, but build self-sufficiency. While I can accommodate to any student's learning style and needs, I come prepared to sessions with practice problems where I can identify possible strengths and weaknesses and reinforce on topics that students may need more practice on. Students are open to ask me any questions along the way. I will walk students through the problems by breaking apart each problem which will allow them to understand and visualize the problem more and also ask them questions on concepts that contributed to their misunderstanding. Surely, I will let students tackle problems on their own. Overall, I will guarantee students will feel like independent learners which will boost their confidence outside of just the tutoring session, to help them accomplish any academic goal they may have.
As a background, I am the President of the Rutgers' SEBS Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Society. During the summer of 2019, I was part of the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) at University of Nebraska Medical Center. During the summer of 2020, I interned at Bristol Myers Squibb for the Pharmacodiagnostics team where I worked with cross-functional teams to initiate a landscape project. By all means, I can serve as an academic coach for the student especially with applying to internships, summer programs, and scholarships. I was awarded $15,000 solely in local merit-based scholarships, so I will ensure students learn how to articulate their goals and start to build their story.
