About Dami
Hey there! My name is Dami and I am a recent college graduate who has tutored several students in their general chemistry and algebra courses over the years. I remember how intimidating it felt sometimes when I took those kinds of courses in high school and college, so I make it my top priority to ensure that my students feel more confident in themselves as scholars! My lesson plans have helped students improve their academic performance substantially (some students even by multiple letter grades). I believe that having a coach/mentor that believes in you is critical for success, and I would love to be that person for you as you tackle chemistry and math!

I primarily teach high school and first-year college students.
For every long-term student I have, I always start with an intro session to get to know them, where they're at, and what their goals are. This is helpful for me to understand their confidence level with the material and any gaps that I can help them fill. This is also when I ask for the class syllabus if the student has one available for that course, so I can see what is being covered in class. This way, I can create the best plans on how to reinforce that information for them.
I like to start my tutoring sessions with a few warm-up questions covering information we've already went over in previous sessions. These warm up questions help us see what stuck and what concepts we might want to revisit.
After this warm-up, I always ask the student if they have any other questions or any concepts they came across recently in class that they would like to go over. In case they don't have any additional questions, I always have slides ready that we can go over which contain important test topics outlined in that course's syllabus.
In my lessons, I never just dump information on a student because I know how boring that is to have someone just talk at you, and you don't retain information that way anyway. I always incorporate practice problems and thought questions all throughout to facilitate an active learning experience. I also will always ask my students to explain their thought processes as we walk through practice questions together.
If there's a test coming up, I also like to create worksheets for my students with extra practice problems a few days before the test in case they feel like they need extra practice!
Above all, my goal is to make sure my students feel more confident in themselves as scholars! I always seek to create a safe space where students can enjoy learning!
