About Scott
I have a First Class BA in philosophy from Essex University where I earned the Barbara Crawshaw Prize for best performance in my year group, a Distinction MA in philosophy from York University on the Jane Tomlinson Scholarship for academic excellence, and am currently working on my PhD in philosophy - the project involving extensive research in chemistry and biology - back at Essex, for which I have been awarded government (AHRC) funding to complete in virtue of the promise of the research and my academic track record. I have worked as a summer-school teacher for over five years in a Cambridge University based summer school, teaching Philosophy & Ethics, Politics & International Relations, History, Sociology, and Psychology, on a group and individual basis. I have also worked as an online tutor for over six years, teaching, in addition to the above subjects, English Language, English Literature, Religious Studies, Chemistry and Biology. I have taught in classrooms, online, in public spaces, and even in prisons. There is perhaps nothing that I find as rewarding as teaching, and this love of the art translates to the best results for my students.

I offer tuition for GCSEs, A Levels, and adult learners of all ages. I cover all exam boards. The subjects I teach include:

Typically, lessons are an hour long, though I am happy for them to be longer. With my student-centred approach, I aim to develop students' confidence in their own abilities alongside improving their knowledge of the subject in question. I principally achieve this with problem-oriented and dialogue-based teaching techniques that naturally make topics interesting and encourage students to arrive at the answers themselves under careful guidance, cultivating the inquisitive mind. I often focus on essay writing techniques, implementation of which has brought my students up from grade C to A*.
