About Yuri
I received my BS in Creative Writing from the University of Colorado in 2003 (magna cum laude, with honors), where I twice won the Jovanovich Award for poetry. My poetry, fiction, and plays were widely published in university publications.
Since that time, I have continued to write across all genres, while focusing most of my energies on teaching creative writing at the community level, with a specialty in teaching memoir writing to (mostly) senior citizens in rural communities of Colorado and Wyoming.

My teaching method is highly personal, with deep attention to each student's goals and needs, and with a focus on the development of a strength and authenticity or style. I encourage a process-oriented approach to writing, with an understanding of the drafting and revision processes, leading ultimately to completion and publishing.
Students may bring existing work and projects to the table, or request prompts for new work.
In addition, students may read, analyze, and engage with texts from across the established canon and beyond.
Lessons are for all ages and experience levels. (I specialize in memoir writing instruction, which I have practiced now for almost fifteen years.)
