About Bogush

Hey there! My name is Bogush, and I'm a singer-songwriter from Eastern Europe, currently residing in Los Angeles. After playing music, writing songs, and performing for about 10 years, my guitar has become to me one of the most essential elements of my existence. And it's not a joke! I went to a private music school to learn to play it and now I'm ready to share this knowledge and my experience with others!

I'm here to help you become a better musician - whether you're just picking up an instrument or want to improve your range of existing skills like improvising, songwriting, understanding rhythm or, perhaps, just wanna learn your favorite songs!

Of course, my teaching methods will depend on your individual preferences: your style, your goals, your level, etc. One thing I know for sure - I don't want to be a strict snobby tutor that makes you memorize the entire theory. I will try to be as practical as possible and teach you those things that are really used and needed in music so you can start playing your favorite songs as soon as possible! And I know that sometimes it's simply essential to have a person who can just give smart advice, share some personal experience or, sometimes, just listen to you play!

Plus, I believe that with the internet most of the things can be learned today for free - that's why I would focus on those subtle details of playing the guitar that you can't get from YouTube videos or online articles.

And, of course, I would like to become somewhat of a friend for you that can help you out with any of your daily guitar questions and with whom, eventually, you could have a cozy jam session:]

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

It was in my high school years. That's about the time when I had just developed my own music tastes. I was listening to a lot of punk and hard rock music and I couldn't help playing on the "air guitar" along with the songs. I was really getting into the idea that I wanna play those cool heavy riffs just like those guitarists on the stage, and all of a sudden the "air guitar" was not enough:) Eventually, I discovered a wide range of genres and different styles of playing the guitar and started writing my own songs.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

    Vintage jazz from the 30's-40's.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

How to play "Giant Steps" by John Coltrane. Just listen to it and you will get why.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

    A triangle, of course.

Jokes aside, it's probably vocals. This is the only instrument completely reliant on your physical predisposition. You can learn how to play anything on an acceptable level with zero talent, but if you don't have "the voice", "musical ear" or just have messed up vocal cords, you may experience a lot of troubles trying to learn how to sing.
  • What are your keys to success?

99% of practice + 1% of talent + sprinkle of luck
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

    Soko
I said to myself once "If I will ever be able to give a hug to Soko, I will consider my life as complete". Her music for me is better than therapy, it's like listening to your soulmate read their personal diary for you.

    Tim McIlrath
He's the leader of my favorite band Rise Against. I would like to ask him what happened to the girl his earlier songs were about.

    Chris Cornell
Would be awesome to find out that the guy is still alive and enjoying his life after faking his own death to get away from society's eye and fame.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

BE AWARE OF FRAUDS. I used to have a great guitar teacher. However, when he was done with tutoring, the music school had to find a replacement. It took about a month for me to realize that the new guy was just a douchebag pretending to be a teacher. His "methods" were to give a student an unclear task, rapidly show how to play it while showing off his skills, and then he would sit with his phone till the end of the class while you're supposed to practice what he gave you. It's super easy to fool young fresh music students who have never had a tutor and have no one to compare with. So don't let those "experts" waste your time. If you feel no improvement or you feel like you could achieve more during classes, consider changing a tutor.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I don't know, I change the strings every other week. Does that count?
