About Hajrah
As someone who has experienced and successfully dealt with the rigmarole of grammar school exams and preparation, I was fortunate enough to be given the chance for some of the best standards of education offered in the UK by my own tutors and people who helped me. I want to be able to give other kids who are in that same position I once was, and make their 11+ prep journey as beneficial, successful and least-stressful, as possible. I wholeheartedly believe that every student deserves to live up to their full potential, and I will enjoy unlocking their unique strengths as well as building up their weaknesses. As someone who only took their exam in 2020, I have a much more fresh memory on the first-hand experience of the 11+ as well as other grammar school/independent school entry exams, which aids in making my teaching style and approach to students very effective. In other words, I will try my utmost, as my tutors did, to get your student into the school they (or their parents) desire - as I had the chance to do so. I understand that this may not be the most inherently enjoyable pursuit for kids, but I truly believe that these foundational skills practised in the 11+ alone will greatly benefit your child for their upcoming secondary school career - the logic of language in Verbal Reasoning, pattern recognition in Non-Verbal Reasoning, the indispensability of maths and the real-life relevance of English are all valuable tools that I will give your child, not only to succeed in the 11+, but in the (admittedly more gruelling) challenges that lay further down in life.

I often like to explain concepts and topics clearly and visually, and in order for the student to achieve complete understanding I'm very eager to answer any questions and have an exchange with my tutee. I like to make learning a more enjoyable activity and understand the perspective of a 10-11 year old likely to be taking their first exam, as this experience is relatively rather fresh in my mind. I'm very patient and willing to try different approaches based on the student's needs as a result. The typical length of my lessons is 2 hours and I'm available any weekday, preferably from 1-3 pm, but this can be flexible. I've had experience informally teaching other kids for their 11+, but this would be my first opportunity to formally tutor people. Having my own fair share of tutors, however, I know my way around communication, learning techniques and organisation of lessons as a whole. I'd like to reiterate that these lessons are for 10-11 year olds preparing for their 11+, and I can teach all areas - Maths, English, NVR and VR, and I can rotate between these four. When teaching, I understand that foundational understanding is crucial. My technique is to test the student first in a very low-stakes set of questions. I can therefore identify their mistakes, the root causes of these mistakes, and set up another lesson going through the mistakes and teaching the general topics that they're under, taking any questions. I'd then make another test on these topics to ensure their understanding, then repeat the whole process until all weak points are targeted and dealt with. For English, I'd give them a past comprehension passage to infer and dissect every lesson, as well as asking them what they think makes this piece a well-written one in order to help guide them in writing their own stories for the KEHS/KES exam, if they're set on taking one of these exams. I scored very highly in my creative writing coursework for GCSE - only losing one mark, so I'm quite confident in this area. Overall, I'm very understanding, eager and thorough in teaching, and appreciate engagement and enjoyment from whoever I'm tutoring. I'm willing to push students to think and perform up to their full potential!
