About Arif

I am an experienced, caring, competent and dedicated teacher. I use creative, imaginative, and positive reinforcement strategies to help students access and apply maths & physics skills. I have gained extensive knowledge and experience working as a tutor since 2011. I am the Head of A level/ Year 12/13 at 2 well-established private tuition centres in London and an examiner for Edexcel. I love tutoring, tutoring has enabled me to improve the life opportunities of so many young people, enabling them to continue on to colleges, universities and courses of their choice. My advice to parents is that it is worth spending the money to hire the right tutor for your child, as most students thrive with dedicated attention catered for their learning ability.

I have personally developed many techniques over my 14 years in teaching, to help teach my students unique methods not taught at school/college. My methods have not only proven to be more engaging, but have helped students improve their grades and understanding significantly. All of my students are well ahead in their class and are expected to make at least two sub levels of progress within 6 months. The curriculum, for all school ages, now require students to have resilience in their problem-solving abilities, and to hold a concrete understanding of the concepts in order to be successful in their examinations. This success is achieved by students having the time and appropriate facilitation to explore the necessary content - which is exactly what I am able to offer. Furthermore, I provide invaluable resources not available at school/college and early access to past papers that are not available online, or elsewhere. I also teach adult learners, foreign students, and specialise in teaching FOUNDATION YEAR Mechanical Engineering for university please feel free to contact me. Enhanced DBS Check can be shown upon request. Please feel free to get in touch for further information and to discuss your learning requirements. I look forward to hearing from you.

Find out more about Arif

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I've always had a passion for math. It started during my own academic journey when I realized how transformative education can be. The desire to share my knowledge and help others navigate the complexities of math naturally led me to private tutoring.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in A level math. What I love discussing most with students are the fundamental concepts that serve as the building blocks for advanced topics. It's incredibly satisfying to witness the "aha" moments when a student grasps a challenging concept. On the flip side, some topics can be a bit tricky, especially Vectors, but I find joy in breaking them down into manageable chunks.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely, my Secondary school Construction and Built Environemnt GCSE teacher was a true inspiration. He had a unique way of making even the most complex topics engaging and accessible. His passion for teaching and dedication to us as students left a lasting impression on me.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, adaptability, and effective communication are key. Every student learns differently, so being able to tailor my approach to individual needs is crucial. Patience helps in navigating challenges, and clear communication ensures that the student fully understands the material.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One memorable moment was when a struggling student I tutored, maths really wasn't their subject, but she got an A in her A level Math exam. It wasn't just about the grade; it was the newfound confidence they gained. It reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education and the impact a dedicated tutor can have on a student's life.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One ongoing challenge is staying abreast of the latest technological advancements and incorporating them into my teaching. Although the advent of iPad's and shared online work boards has made online teaching more accessible and easier. There are still challenges with cross platform compatibility and most of all students been unfamiliar with all tools at their disposal, which does often slow down session, as i use ipad's/tablets to have a real time view of my students attempting questions.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in demystifying and instilling a love for learning in my students. Witnessing their intellectual growth is incredibly fulfilling. Outside of teaching, I'm also extremly passionate about spirituality.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I believe what sets me apart is my commitment to understanding each student's unique learning style and adapting my teaching methods accordingly. I'm not just imparting knowledge; I'm fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity and critical thinking.
