About Sofia
Hi there! My name is Sofia, and I’m currently at the end of my MA in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Surrey. My name means wisdom, and I take pride in my Greek heritage, with much of my family living there. I love spending a few weeks in Greece every year, visiting family and exploring new places. I understand how rewarding it is to speak even a little with locals while travelling, and I’m here to help you reach that level. I can support you with the basics, small talk, how to order food, key questions, and building up your vocabulary. And with time, I also aim to help you feel confident reading Greek. My lessons are relaxed, enjoyable, and tailored to your individual goals.

My tutoring is based on Rosenshine’s Principles, a research-backed teaching framework that breaks lessons into small, clear steps with regular practice and checks for understanding, helping students learn effectively and build confidence. Each lesson lasts 1 hour, allowing for focused, engaging learning tailored to the student’s needs. All ages are welcome. While I have formal study in teaching methods, much of my tutoring experience comes informally from helping family and friends learn languages, as well as helping to translate documents for them. I grew up trilingual, as I am half Greek and half French, and have spoken and studied English, French, and Greek from a young age. I am proficient in 5 languages, but I mainly focus on 4 of them for work and regular practice: English, French, Greek, and Mandarin Chinese.
