• Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

  I grew up speaking Greek (the language that I teach in my online lessons). I have been speaking Greek for my entire life, both in everyday life and in my family environment. I have also graduated from a greek school, so I have a high academic knowledge of the Greek language.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  For Greece, an emblematic representative of the language's culture would be Odysseus from the Odyssey by Homer. He embodies key aspects of Greek identity, such as intelligence, resilience and adaptability , values deeply routed in Greek history and modern life.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?

  A Greek phrase that I particularly like is «όπου γης και πατρίς», which means «wherever you are, that is your homeland».It captures the resilience and adaptability of the Greek spirit, especially given Greece's history of immigration and diaspora.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Speaking Greek is very important to me for many reasons. Firstly, this is the language that I speak will all my loved ones, so I this language has a special place in my heart. Also, I have learnt and experienced so many things and emotions through the Greek language, that I would never change or forget.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  The main difficulty in learning the Greek language is the complex Grammar. Greece, as a country has a long and deep history and for that reason the history and complexity of its language also exist.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  I remember when I was little, trying to recite the greek alphabet, but always mixing up ξ and ψ, no matter how many times my teacher corrected me. Everyone would laugh and o'd get so frustrated, insisting that I was right!

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  I have spoken Greek my whole life, so I never really had to «learn» it . However, I do remember a trip that made me see my language differently. When I travelled abroad for the first time, I kept catching myself thinking in Greek and trying to translate everything in my head. I also realised how many Greek words exist in other languages , especially in English. It made me appreciate how rich and influential Greek really is, and I felt proud every time I recognise a familiar word in a foreign place.
