About Lucy

My name is Lucy Preston, and I grew up in NYC. I currently am a student at Colby College in Maine, where I am completing a double major in government and art history with a minor in advanced economics.

I have been a tutor for over three years and have worked with over 50 students of differing ages and skill levels on a number of different projects.

I have been a journal-published researcher since high school; I was awarded by the NYT for my work during a summer internship, and I am an employee at my school's writing center, among other things. I am also a championship-winning competitive speaker and a very proficient reader.

And all that experience has taught me that reading, writing, and speaking are skills, not just innate talents. Therefore they can be learned and taught, and I can help you sharpen them into weapons.

About the lesson

The beauty of tutoring is that it is customizable and private, unlike a giant classroom. You are the star pupil, the favorite student, and the only focus of the instruction. In the three years, I have spent tutoring, I have learned that every student tackles learning differently, and I pride myself on my ability to respond to that.

I can work with all age ranges but mainly focus on 7th - 12th-grade students. As for level, I am equally open to struggling students that need a boost and high performers who want an edge.

My leading service is essay coaching, which I do in various ways.

Some ways I can help throughout the process are:

-Brainstorming Phase: gathering Sources, outline building, thesis construction, organization of materials and ideas

-Drafting Phase: live writing sessions where I help translate dictation into text, paragraph workshopping, reorganization, enforcing project timeline

-Editing Phase: I can edit live on camera, or I also am happy to asynchronously read drafts and discuss them on live session

-Formatting: (MLA, APA, and Chicago Style), Bibliographies and Citations

-Variety of Assignments: Creative Writing, Research Papers, Research Skills, Reflection, Philosophical Writing, Prose and Poetry, College Essays, etc
