About Richard
I am a student at Sussex University coming towards the end of my second year of undergraduate study in International Relations. Most of my more formal experience as a tutor comprises of assisting/mentoring As-politics students while completing A level assessment, a role for which I was recommended to students by my schools head of politics. Whilst competing my undergraduate degree, I have more informally strived to assist those on my course that may struggle with certain concepts. As well as politics, I have a deep interest and knowledge of history (most specifically classical), political psychology and aerospace.

I believe that the most important component of teaching effectively is fostering a passion and genuine interest for the subject being learned, as this can take a student all the way from procrastination to excellence. Coupled with this, I find it important for a balanced dialogue to take place, encouraging the student to engage in their own critical thinking regarding the subject material, rather than learning through repetition or memorisation.
Whilst different students may struggle in differing areas, a core set of fundamental skills should be continually encouraged throughout the tutoring process, not just learning who, what, where, and when, but most importantly why. Understanding the reasoning and influences behind events is a key skill not just for learning but for life, and is particularly vital in the essay based subjects such as politics and history. Learning this skill of finding the hidden motive will enable the student to write a truly comprehensive essay whether for coursework or an exam.

Richard has been my friend for several years.
Richard has a critical eye through which he can assess geopolitical affairs. He is able also to consider the various nuances of events & their impact nationally and globally.
These skills will enable Richard to provide insight beyond a syllabus. though through his secondary & university education he can also interpret marking schemes to help students obtain the highest grades.Richard is knowledgeable and very well informed, with a friendly and engaging manner. He would make a great tutor in politics.
I’ve studied alongside Richard from primary school and during our time at University. He has an in-depth knowledge of all things political including an impressive knowledge of any historical context.
Given that he’s helped me understand concepts I’ve struggled with, I would recommend him as someone to turn to.Richard has a really impressive political knowledge. He's articulate, fantastic at explaining things in detail but also very comprehensibly. He is the person I go to when I need anything explaining or clarifying, and is also just a great person to have engaging and intellectually-stimulating conversation with. I've known Richard for my entire time at university and there's no-one I can think of who's better equipped to tutor in the subject!
I can highly recommend Richard as an International Relations tutor. He is certainly accomplished is his subject with an ability to bring a deeper thinking and relevant sources to a situational study. He is A friendly reliable support for this subject.
