About Jessica

I am a current Dunedin high-school student and I absolutely love talking to people. English is one of my biggest passions and my favorite subject without a doubt, so it makes sense to combine this with my love for social interaction and begin tutoring. Also, I have really enjoyed tutoring in the past, as getting to know my students and watching them improve over time has been fantastic.

About the lesson

Parents!! I am very good with kids, even tweens. I have three younger siblings who I've tutored in the past, and it's allowed me to figure out the best ways to strike that balance between pushing a child to work their hardest, whilst keeping up my role as a healthy and encouraging supportive force. This is my most unique selling point, because I know just how hard it is to help a kid (especially one unenthusiastic and reluctant to develop their English skills) flourish... But I am here to take on the task. As a teacher I like to keep lessons casual and low-key. I'm definitely not a strict authoritative figure (although I can keep a handle on a situation), and I aim to encourage a passion for English rather than just knowing 'the right answer'. I want to let the student and you guide our lessons for the most part, as I will tailor my teaching to suit my tutee's needs, whilst keeping it upbeat and even fun. I like to find practical and interactive ways to teach, so that the experience is enjoyable, on top of any possible improvement you might see in overall marks. I don't want to be just another grouchy tutor - I am going to prioritize a healthy and happy experience with my student. As a tutor, I have completed NCEA levels 1 and 2 at overall excellence endorsed, and I also gained an excellence subject endorsement for English over both of those years. I am currently completing NCEA level 3, and despite my externals not being over, I achieved all of my internals this year at excellence level. I am very academically capable. To add to this I also have prior years of experience as a peer tutor within my school, and as a debating coach. Lastly, my lessons are for students of any age from 11 to 17, that are studying at any level up to NCEA 2. Thank you for your consideration! I hope to be of assistance soon.
