About Emily
My name is Emily Darst, I have taught middle-high school aged students private lessons and have taught middle school show choir. I have also received a John Philip Sousa Award for high achievement in band. I am currently pursuing my Music Education degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

I believe in meeting students where they are and working with them to find how they learn best and how to achieve their goals and full potential as musicians. I like to start with scales, long tones (if applicable), and etudes. I also like to work on sight reading and preparing repertoire during a lesson. As music theory can get boring when lectured to students, especially young students, I like to incorporate it into the entire duration of the lesson as I believe it feels much more natural to learn in this way.
