About Maksym

After my graduation with PGDip, I have been teaching Social Sciences and Humanities at different schools and colleges in Liverpool, London and Manchester. However, during the recent years I have been teaching a wide spectre of different disciplines from History and Geography to Maths and Science. Currently, I give classes in English and foreign languages (French, German, Spanish).
Predominantly, my students are secondary school pupils ages 11 to 14.
At the same time, I am also working a lot with students individually and preparing them for GCSE and AQA exams. I am proud that owing to my classes, a number of my students in Liverpool and London significantly increased their level of knowledge of Maths, Science, English and History and have managed to successfully pass their exams to college and university.
Also, I have experience of working with SEND pupils ages 11 to 14 for GCSE exams and entering college.

About the lesson

Usually, I give examples from films or from Shakespeare, “Hamlet”. However, once I had a class, when they told me that they do not watch films, only play computer games, e.g. shooters with violence.
• Situation – Explaining Foucault’s theory of microphysics of power to students. Feeling that students cannot understand it sufficiently good enough.
• Task – Prepare students so that they could write an essay on this topic (Politics and Society course)
• Action – Co-operated with another TA and asked her to explain for me and student of hers to give me feedback on what I did wrong. She told me that I myself do not understand that Foucault has two conceptions of power: a) direct and b) disciplinary.
• Result – I draw a scheme to students using IT slides where I have emphasised the distinction between two types of power and students have written very good essays on the topic and my professor gave very high marks to them.
