About Jed
Hello! I’m a 4th-year undergraduate student studying Occupational Therapy in Victoria, Australia.
Aside from my studies, I tutor English online (and in person when suitable) for secondary and college students, as well as adult beginners. I work with learners who need help catching up, strengthening fundamentals, improving their grades, or preparing for tests and exams. I’m especially comfortable supporting students who feel unsure or anxious about the subject, and I try to create a casual environment where students can learn at a pace that's comfortable for them.
I have experience working with students of different learning styles and abilities, and I adapt my lessons to each student's needs, whether that means going step-by-step, using more practice questions, or focusing on exam technique and time management. My lessons are flexible but goal-oriented, with a casual approach alongside clear guidance and consistent feedback.
In my free time, I enjoy various outdoor activities such as hiking, badminton, and pool, as well as occasionally playing video games.

My approach to tutoring is to make concepts clear, make practice purposeful, and build confidence through consistent progress. I structure each class around what you need most, so whether that’s strengthening fundamentals, catching up on school content, preparing for exams, or pushing for top grades whilst keeping lessons engaging and supportive.
Techniques and teaching methodology:
I use a “diagnose → teach → practise → apply → review” method so every lesson has a clear outcome.
Quick diagnosis & goal-setting: At the start, I'd like to identify exactly where you’re confident and where you’re stuck (through a few targeted questions or a short task). Then we set a specific goal for the lesson.
Step-by-step explanation: I break topics down into manageable steps, using simple language first, then building to exam-level understanding. If a student is struggling, I’ll explain the same idea in a different way until it clicks (visuals, examples, analogies, or guided prompts).
Guided practice with feedback: We practise together first, then you try independently while I coach and correct misconceptions in real time. I focus on why something is wrong, not just what the correct answer is.
Active recall & spaced reinforcement: I regularly revisit key skills across lessons to refresh your memory, vital for test preparation!
Exam technique & study habits: For students preparing for tests, I teach time management according to the task at hand, as well as common mistake patterns. I also share simple revision routines and strategies to stay consistent between sessions.
Progress tracking: I keep notes on what we covered, what improved, and what needs work next, so every lesson builds on the previous one.
Typical length of a lesson:
Most of my lessons span around 60 minutes, which I find is the best balance between focus and productivity for most learners. I also offer 45-minute sessions and 90-minute sessions to accommodate the student's schedule, which can be extended if necessary.
Qualifications and experience as a tutor:
I bring a combination of strong subject knowledge and hands-on tutoring experience. Over time, I’ve worked with students at different ability levels—those who need patient foundational support as well as students aiming for high achievement. I’m experienced in:
- simplifying difficult concepts
- identifying learning gaps quickly
- building structured revision plans
- helping students improve performance through targeted practice and feedback
My lessons are designed for students who want clear explanations and structured support, including:
- Secondary to College students
- Students who need help strengthening fundamentals or catching up
- Students who do best with a calm, step-by-step approach and plenty of guided practice
I adapt my teaching style to students’ ages, levels, and learning paces, so lessons don't have to feel overwhelming.
