About Tania
Hi, I’m Tania! I help students and adults who dread public speaking find their voice and confidence.
I have a Communication degree from UNLV, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0. Alongside coursework in how to communicate and analyze rhetorical choices, I wrote and delivered an original TEDx talk in 2024. I rehearsed it more than 70 times, then performed it live for a real audience and recorded it on camera under pressure.
I’ve also spent almost 20 years in theater, including improv, where the whole job is staying calm and adjusting when something doesn’t go as planned. That’s the same skill public speaking actually runs on, and it’s why I don’t teach from a script. I teach from what I’ve had to figure out myself, under real pressure, more than once.
What we can work on together:
1. Planning how to write your speech
2. Audience analysis
3. Nonverbal communication coaching
4. Designing your presentation
Outside of speaking work, I tutor and mentor students of different ages. I'm also a substitute teacher and have worked as a classroom aide. And, currently, I'm a Girls Write Now Mentor (former mentee in screenwriting and stage writing), most recently mentoring in Civil Discourse and their Summer Book Club program.
I take this seriously because I know what it's like to be genuinely afraid of being watched while you talk. I've been there, and I've gotten good at it anyway. I can help you do the same, because your voice matters!

I teach public speaking the way I actually learned it: by doing it a lot, getting uncomfortable, and doing it again until it stopped feeling like performing.
I don't hand people a script or a list of generic tips. We break things down instead. Structure, pacing, voice, body language, one piece at a time, then put it back together. Most people who freeze up aren't missing ideas. They've got the ideas. Nerves just get in the way. So we work on that too. Breathing, eye contact, what to do when your mind goes blank mid-sentence, because it will, and that's normal, not a failure.
I'm also not here to teach you to speak like me. We will find how you sound when you're being you.
A typical lesson starts with wherever you actually are. Maybe you've got a speech to prep, a presentation for class, an interview coming up, or you just want to stop hating the sound of your own voice in front of people. I'll have you run through something out loud early, rough is fine, so I can hear what's actually happening instead of guessing. Then we work on one or two specific things that session. By the end you run it again, and you'll hear the difference yourself.
Here's what I actually bring to this: I wrote and gave a TEDx talk, rehearsed it more than 70 times, and delivered it live in front of a real audience and a camera that doesn't forgive mistakes. I've done theatre for almost 20 years, including improv, where there's no redo when something goes sideways, you just keep going. I've also spent real time tutoring and mentoring writers of very different ages, so I'm used to meeting someone where they are instead of where a textbook assumes they should be.
This is for students and adults. Whether you've got one specific speech you're terrified of or you just want to generally get better at holding a room, either one works.

Tania is a patient, honest, and professional collaborator. Every time I co-write with her I learn something new. Tania has a vast range of knowledge about writing and public speaking. The environment she creates is welcoming and tailored to every person’s needs.
I've been working with Tania for many years. As a teacher, she meets students where they are and can help build confidence unlocking new skills as a writer and speaker. She offers great feedback while keeping the learning experience kind and patient. I appreciate her in-depth knowledge and organization, and that she can pull from her own years of practical experience as a writer and performer to help you grow.
I'm delighted to recommend Tania Merolla without reservation. I came to know her work firsthand as she supported students in my own classroom, and I can say with complete confidence that she is an exceptional educator.
What sets her apart is the rare combination of patience and genuine warmth she brings to every session. She is endlessly kind and encouraging, creating a space where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. At the same time, she has a real gift for motivating students to push past their comfort zone and take ownership of their learning.
Her instructional instincts are outstanding. She has an intuitive ability to read exactly what a student needs in the moment and adjust her approach accordingly, whether that means slowing down to reinforce a foundational concept or finding a fresh angle when a student is stuck. She consistently finds creative, engaging ways to connect material to each student's interests and experiences, which makes learning feel relevant and even fun rather than like a chore.
I witnessed the impact of her dedication directly: through patient, meticulous practice, she brought two of my reading intervention students up to grade level by the end of the school year. That kind of growth doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of careful, consistent instruction and a real belief in each student's ability to succeed.
Above all, Tania is deeply invested in her students' success. She goes above and beyond to help them reach their goals, and it's clear that she genuinely cares about the young people she works with, not just their grades.
I recommend her wholeheartedly to any family or student looking for a tutor who combines skill, heart, and dedication in equal measure.View more recommendations
