About Ilaria

I know what it is like to learn English as an additional language because I have been through the process myself. I started studying within the English education system in 2017, achieved Cambridge C2 Proficiency, and have studied at a UK university since 2020. I am now completing a PhD in London and regularly teach university students in English.

I grew up in Switzerland in a multilingual family, so languages and moving between them have always been part of my life. I speak English, Italian, German and French, and I am currently learning Spanish. Being a language learner myself means I understand both how rewarding learning another language can be and how frustrating it can sometimes feel – particularly when you understand much more than you feel able to say!

Alongside my own experience as a language learner, I am TEFL-qualified with observed teaching practice and have completed additional training in teaching online and preparing learners for Cambridge English exams. I bring the same approach I value as a learner to my own teaching: patience, encouragement and lessons that respond to the individual rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to your individual goals, interests and level, with a strong focus on building confidence and using English actively. I aim to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment where you feel comfortable speaking, asking questions and making mistakes.

I offer three types of online lessons:

• Speaking Practice – focused on developing fluency, confidence, vocabulary and pronunciation through guided or more informal conversation. Speaking Practice can be booked for either 30 or 60 minutes.

• General English – 60-minute lessons combining different skills according to your needs, including speaking, grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening and writing. Lessons can focus on particular areas you would like to improve or provide a balanced approach to developing your overall English.

• Cambridge Exam Preparation – 60-minute lessons for learners preparing for Cambridge English qualifications, with a focus on exam tasks, strategies and the language skills needed for the exam.

I am TEFL-qualified, including observed teaching practice, and have completed additional training in online language teaching and Cambridge exam preparation. I also hold the Cambridge C2 Proficiency qualification and have over 200 hours of university-level teaching experience in English.

My lessons are primarily for adult learners from A2 to C1. As a language learner myself, I understand the challenges of developing confidence in another language: I speak English, Italian, German and French, and I am currently learning Spanish.
