About Ashk
I started studying for my theoretical physics PhD in 2016 just after graduating with a 1st in my theoretical physics degree from the University of Leeds. I have been giving lessons in undergraduate physics and maths for 3 years, teaching both individuals and large classes of students. I enjoy all aspects of teaching and find that both the students and I develop a more in-depth understanding of the subject as we come up with new ways of understanding the complex ideas involved in physics and maths together.

I like to start by taking the students through the material in the course and highlighting with their guidance the areas they struggle with. We then explore the topics together and work on producing explanations and ways of visualizing these complex ideas in a way that is intuitive and easily understandable for the students. I believe that this provides a deeper, more memorable understanding of the topic. We then test this knowledge with examples and practice questions that the student goes through with varying levels of assistance from me.
As we approach exam period I like to look at past papers and pick out all the toughest questions, break them down and learn how to tackle them. I believe that the most important thing for succeeding in a physics or maths course is having a solid in-depth understanding of the topics. A close second to this however is having good exam technique, knowing how to pick out the important parts of a question and do the essential things that show the examiners that you know what you are talking about. I like to focus on understanding the material first and then ensure that the student is comfortable and capable when faced with an exam.
