About Kyla
As a tutor, well- as a person, I aim to connect with people and show care and encouragement wherever I go. A student at Stanford, an athlete at heart, I've learned a great deal about learning, as a whole, and learning to like to learn since venturing from my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. I've obtained the skill of being resilient in an ever-changing world- no matter the circumstance, and I hope to transmit that knowledge to your child in the form of tutoring and disciplined attention to what matters most right now- their education. If anyone extends a hand for assistance in my direction with wanting to gain new academic skills, I'm going to reach back to catch their hand and walk with them to the land of better grades and self-confidence.
Tutoring is a passion of mine. I did not get into school by myself. It takes a village. I'm willing to be of service. With my wide scope of knowledge in the areas of theology, English (poetry and prose), Latin, psychology, society and culture at large, I hope to bring a rich learning experience to any student I encounter. I will do this by having structured and relevant information to enhance the student's learning and capture their attention. I will show respect at all times and be the best model I can be.
Currently, I am taking time to work a bit, while keeping up my writing before I apply to PhD programs, so I'll be around. Try me out, and build a relationship where I am dedicated to discovering excellent, fun, and engaging ways for your student to find the learning style that fits them best.

I love showing a student the subtle subtext of how their writing or speech can work well against a block to creativity. I gently highlight this same subtext when a student's work is inhibiting them from bringing essence into their work. Typically, I can draw out pathways of thought that are usually fun and engaging and nuanced. All of this makes for an entertaining session that is focused and well-directed toward the goal of creating something special.
