About Noah
Before I studied at Monash University, I completed my VCE with a ATAR of 90.65 and a study score of 46 in English and the Academic Excellence Award in Physics. Now I am studying at the Australian Catholic University. I have been tutoring for nearly 4 years and have more great students than I can remember, but here are some kind words from a few:
Thank you so much! You are really helping! – Aynur
I’ve gotten into a good course. Thanks for your help. I know my English and physics would not have been as good as they were without you – Max
Thank you for your help. It definitely saved my study score – Ben
We really appreciate all your hard work – Bernadette
Thank you for your time and flexibility – Delta
Thank you so much for helping – Nella
Due to my work, I will be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The thing about English is that everyone needs to do it to complete VCE, but very few students ever understand the key points that English is teaching. This is because you really need to study English to understand it, but students often don’t know what to study. This is where tutoring really can help, in my experience. One-on-one tutoring with someone who knows English back-to-front and can read where students are struggling can really work wonders within months. I have seen it happen many times. With a bit of focused, one-on-one work, students start to understand and ask questions, and then the penny drops. When they ‘get it’, it is very satisfying. It makes me want to tutor. My rate is $50 an hour.
I have had a lot of experience tutoring in VCE English. It is something I really enjoy because I have really helped my students achieve the grades they want and I have helped them express themselves in their own voice.
That is why I really enjoy tutoring in English. I tutor Physics as well, but English is my favourite. On one hand, that is because I just have a real knack for English, but it is also because I find English tutoring the most challenging and therefore rewarding. With English and Literature, you really have to work with students because it is not about getting the right or wrong answer. It is about learning how to think critically and develop sophisticated insights. Tutoring in the one-on-one setting is the best place to learn these skills. For this reason, though it is hard, I really enjoy working with my students to bring out their own voice and insights so they can get the best marks and learn how to express their ideas in ways that can really help them grow. For this reason, I believe that tutoring in English can help students build skills that will help them for the rest of their lives - particularly the skills of critical thinking and learning to express their ideas.
Tutoring in English can be really hard work though. Knowing when to challenge students and when to just let them sit with what they are comfortable with is a skill I have learned over many years. The challenge of helping them find their own voice and not overwhelming them is also a fine-grained skill. But mostly, it is getting to know how each student thinks. One-on-one tutoring enables this kind of learning to take place. It provides a space that simply cannot be made in today’s overcrowded class rooms. I enjoy being able to facilitate students getting really good marks because I have seen how helpful that can be for their confidence.
Over the years I have tutored, students often ask me “how do you study for English?”. They find they are at a loss as to how they can learn and often this means they just don’t study for English. This is interesting to me because it shows how useful a tutor can be for this subject, which is not as straightforward as when I tutor in Physics. With my comprehensive knowledge of English, I can guide students in what they need to engage with for their level of understanding. I have seen many students really start to understand English which causes the best thing to happen: they become interested in their learning and become motivated to learn for themselves. This sort of inspiration is what I think I can do best. I think that is because I genuinely enjoy English and can share that joy with my students. This of course provides more than just good marks, but when a student is interested, the good marks come naturally. However, really understanding the concepts and skills in English serves you for the rest of your life, whether it be enjoying reading more, being able to think more insightfully about our lives, or thinking more critically about the ways the media and marketing try to persuade us.
With Physics, I find the most useful area I can tutor students in is the concepts behind the maths. Since most students studying Physics are proficient at maths, and since the maths in Physics is not difficult, it is actually a poor understanding of the underlying concepts that usually leads to poor outcomes.
Studying Science has led me to recognise that there is a lack of teachers able to span across disciplines like Physics and English.
I wish to use my broad academic skill set to help people thrive in doing what they want to do. Whether that means helping them for just one test or an entire curriculum, I will use all my skills to the best of my ability in order to tailor what I need to teach in the most effective way I can.
I think, too, that teaching the bigger picture is really important for students. For instance, learning even snippets about the history of Physics can be very helpful
Physics and Maths make more sense but they also become wondrous and inspiring disciplines that are revealed as a lineage of knowledge spanning across the Earth and handed down over millennia, that can take us from measuring the circumference of a circle to calculating the point at which time crumbles at the edge of a black hole. I think it is this kind of bigger picture in Maths, Physics and English that can actually inspire students to learn
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Noah.
Perfect! Noah dealt calmly and productively with my son, Patrick who is a very challenging student with Dyslexia. He took the time to understand Pat's strengths and weaknesses before hand and worked to get him engaged with the material prior to the tutoring starting in earnest. Noah is a very good listener as well as a tutor!
