About Hamish

Teaching and writing are not just work for me — they are skills I genuinely care about and want to share. I have spent years working in education with young people of different ages and backgrounds, and I enjoy getting to know individuals as much as helping them develop academically. Writing has always been central to how I think and learn, and I take real pride in helping students express ideas clearly and confidently. Tutoring also allows me the flexibility to balance my academic work and competitive rugby, without compromising my commitment to students. I approach every lesson with professionalism, care, and a genuine interest in each learner’s progress.

About the lesson

My approach is structured, analytical, and highly practical. Lessons focus on developing clear thesis statements, coherent argumentation, and precise written expression. I emphasise planning, critical engagement with sources, and paragraph-level structure, while tailoring feedback to each student’s subject and ability level. Sessions are interactive and designed to produce immediate, transferable improvements in writing quality.

Lessons typically range from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the student’s needs, level, and the depth of work being covered.

I have five years of teaching experience, working with students aged 5 to 19 in primary and secondary school settings across multiple countries. This has given me strong adaptability and the ability to support learners at very different stages of academic development.
