About Conan
Being the fast and committed learner that I am, I continue to take the opportunity to develop and enhance my own teaching ideologies, knowledge and strategies, particularly the literacy and numeracy aspects of building my subject knowledge. These are particularly important because, it is essential for my students to know and understand the key business and economics terminologies such as economies of scale which corresponds to the cost saving advantages gained by businesses through an efficient means of production; for example purchasing raw materials in bulk. It is also very vital for students to know and understand key formulae in these subject areas. I therefore ensure that I incorporate literacy and numeracy into my lessons depending on the topic I am teaching, through having a key term with definition slide or key formula slide in my PowerPoint presentations for students to take down and I quiz them on it the following lesson with them to ensure they can recall what they’ve learnt the previous lesson. Moreover, it is vital that students’ work are being assessed to facilitate, and promote progression in pupils, allowing them to reflect on detailed feedback, giving them the chance to respond to the detailed feedback and build upon their knowledge; I use a variety of assessment methods to encourage this progress, such as formative and summative assessment. I give very detailed written feedback to my students when I mark their essays and this detailed written feedback helps the students to know what they did very well, and also help them to identify areas they lack adequate knowledge, and how they can improve on their work. After they’ve reflected on this feedback, I give them the chance to do a RIT activity where they use a green pen to make all necessary corrections and re-write the essay once again for me to check and monitor the progress they’ve made following the feedback they had received. In the classroom, I am always seeking that fantastic feeling of finally getting through to a pupil who “just couldn’t get it”. I do so by firstly building a good rapport with my students, encouraging them to approach me with any business related questions they may have (both within and beyond the curriculum) and creating a safe learning environment in the classroom for them to have the confidence to make mistakes and learn from the mistakes and this is the same approach I have towards my tutees.

Given the complexity of our educational landscape; adaptability, flexibility, and innovation have come to the forefront of my approach to lesson planning. As an ambitious, enthusiastic and highly motivated teacher of business studies and economics, I am particularly interested in opportunities to enhance and implement change in my teaching to enable my tutees to get the very best from me. Lessons typically last anywhere between 50 minutes to an hour and I have a PGCE in business studies from UCL. I teach business and economics at GCSE level through to A-level and I am also able to teach maths lessons to year 7s through to 9s.

So thankful for Conan’s hard work, when I started tuition with Mr Edu I was achieving U’s.
