About Aleksa
I am a junior at Tulane University majoring in Chemistry and Economics. I have been an organic chemistry tutor for the past few months and I have 3 years of experience as a volunteer student teacher for middle school students in algebra and geometry. In my science and math classes so far I have gotten all A's without a curve. These classes include general chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, general physics, calculus I, II, III, and applied mathematics.

I like to tutor by first asking the student what they need help with specifically, how they are struggling/what issues they are facing when trying a new problem. I then like to take them through a problem that they would typically struggle with step by step as guided practice. This is also when I will give them tips from my own learning experience. Once I can tell the student is starting to understand the concept/problem better, I will have them try a few on their own. If they get stuck, I will back track with them and revisit guided practice as necessary until they are fully confident on their own. This method tends to work for students in late middle school and up, but if I notice the student it losing focus or interest in the subject, I will try to make the lesson more fun by making it a game or offering a reward for effort to make learning more exciting. I've only taught students in math and science before and this method has worked with most of my students.
