About Amy
I am a University of Edinburgh English Literature graduate, where I received my undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD degrees. My main interests are in Victorian literature, and I am continuing to build expertise in this field.
My work has been published in the Australasian Journal for Victorian Studies and the Thomas Hardy Society Journal. I am also the 2021 winner of the Patrick Tolfree Essay prize.
I have previously held teaching positions at the University of Edinburgh, and have worked as Editor in Chief for 'FORUM: The University of Edinburgh's Journal for Culture and the Arts'.
Currently, I am the BAVS Newsletter Editor and Nineteenth-Century Matters Fellow with Royal Holloway University of London.

I am committed to a research led, student-centred approach to learning. This means that our lessons will focus on you and your needs. We will identify those areas you wish to improve and, together, work to help you gain a sound understanding of texts, formal strategies, and technical aspects of reading comprehension and essay writing.
As a Graduate Tutor at the University of Edinburgh, I found it immensely rewarding helping students to establish familiarity with different texts and forms, and seeing them grow and improve as a result. I aimed to create a stimulating learning environment (online, hybrid, or face-to-face) for my students, who described me as supportive, engaged, and excellent at providing feedback and facilitating discussion. I intend to apply the same degree of commitment and enthusiasm to our sessions.
Lessons are typically between an hour or an hour and a half. I would be interested in supporting students working at National 1-5 , Higher, and Advanced Higher level, as well as university students working on essays, dissertations, or theses.
