About Olivia

My name is Olivia and I am an 18 year old university student from London. I have always had a passion for writing since I was a child. I have excelled in my GCSE's and A levels in English and feel I have knowledge in this subject that I wish to share with other students. Studying throughout secondary school, especially during my a levels, I have managed to adopt a range of ways in which students can write effective and clear essays that examiners will love! I have also been privately tutored myself in the past in areas such as poetry and prose, looking at complex novels like Frankenstein and Never let me go. As I have just finished my a levels I have a fresh knowledge on how to study a level english away from the text book, so that I can give students more than one way they can revise.

About the lesson

My teaching methods vary, depending on which topic or part of the subject I will be teaching. For example, if I am teaching poetry I would like the student to choose one poem they would like to study where we can go through the language and structural techniques together, also allowing the student to identify these themselves. If there are any techniques they don't understand I will print off a technique list and go through this with the student when needed. I will also ensure that the student practises going over unseen texts and poems as this is what they will be tested on in their exam, giving them a list of criteria to check off. In areas such as prose (novels) I will suggest that the student reads the required number of chapters for each session, highlighting any key quotes which can later be stored as flashcards for memory. For any drama plays that will be studied key quotations will be looked at in depth. For any homework that I set I will be using mainly essay writing for students so that they can practise with practise questions and also write essays with students so that the structure becomes clear to them. These essays will have a structure (one that I have used and been successful with) and be taught to any students that I teach!
