About RAQUEL JOY

In my present role as a tutor in Fruitville Elementary School, I help students with low confidence in Mathematics and improve their grade. I have a proven track record of creating an engaging lesson plan that caters diverse learning styles, promoting positive behavior through effective communication, and building strong relationships with both children and their families.

I hold a Bachelor in Elementary Education, DCF 40 Hours Training, CPR/First Aid Certification, Professional Teaching License in the Philippines and an Eligibility in Teaching here in Florida.

Differentiated instruction is my method in teaching because it adjusts content (what students learn), process (how they learn), and product (how they demonstrate learning) so that each child receives the right level of challenge.
This prevents advanced learners from feeling bored and struggling learners from feeling overwhelmed especially for K-5th students.
My typical lesson plan composed of the following:
1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Differentiation:
If the student is a beginner: Use skip counting with visual aids (e.g., counting by 2s, 5s, 10s with number lines).
If the student is advanced: Quick mental math challenges (e.g., “What’s 4 × 7?”) and ask them to explain their thinking.
2. Direct Instruction (10 minutes)
Visual Demonstration: Use an online whiteboard to draw arrays (e.g., 3 rows of 4 dots).
Interactive Practice: Student creates their own arrays using drawing tools or virtual manipulatives.
Differentiation:
Support: Provide step-by-step guidance and repeated addition examples.
Enrichment: Introduce the commutative property (e.g., 3 × 4 = 4 × 3) and have the student prove it with arrays.
3. Guided Practice (10 minutes)
Activity: Solve 3–4 multiplication word problems together.
Differentiation:
Support: Use simpler numbers and provide sentence frames (“I have __ groups of __, so I have __ in total”).
Enrichment: Include multi-step problems or larger numbers (e.g., 12 × 5).
4. Independent Practice (5–10 minutes)
Student solves problems on a shared Google Doc or interactive quiz tool.
Differentiation:
Support: Provide visual aids and hints.
Enrichment: Challenge with patterns (e.g., “What happens if we double one factor?”).
5. Wrap-Up & Reflection (5 minutes)
Student explains one multiplication fact using an array.
Quick “exit ticket” question: “If I have 6 rows of 8 apples, how many apples do I have?”
Differentiation:
Support: Allow drawing or using counters.
Enrichment: Ask them to create their own word problem.
