About Binie

Hi, I am a VCE Chemistry specialist tutor supporting students in years 10-12 across Melbourne and Victoria through structured, exam-oriented tutoring.

I hold a PhD degree in chemistry, and I have six years of experience in teaching and supporting senior secondary and undergraduate chemistry students. My background includes teaching chemistry at Monash University and the University of Melbourne, as well as working as senior research scientist with Australian industries, where I have developed my ability to clearly and logically explain chemistry rather than relying on mechanical memorisation.

Based on my experience, I have designed my tutoring approach to focus on conceptual understanding first, followed by their application and significance through VCE-styled questions. I help students break down challenging topics like equilibrium, acid and bases, redox, electrochemistry, organic chemistry and thermodynamics into clear manageable learning packets that will boost student confidence and allow correlation with other topics of chemistry. Lessons are always aligned with the current VCAA VCE Chemistry study design, ensuring students are well-prepared for their SACs, practical and final exam.

Each lesson is structured and personalised to match students' level and learning style. I provide guided problem solving, exam strategies, and targeted practice-questions, as well as clear explanation and regular feedback. My goal is not only to improve exam marks but also develop students' confidence and critical thinking.

I offer both online and f2f tutoring, making it easy for students across Melbourne and Victoria to connect with me. Whether a student is struggling with fundamentals or aiming for top results, I provide structured and supportive guidance to help them realise their potential.

If you are looking for a dedicated VCE chemistry tutor who is clear, patient and result-focused, feel free to reach out and I would be happy to help.

My lessons provide clear, structured, and exam-focused support for VCE Chemistry students (Years 10–12). Each session is carefully tailored to deliver clear learning outcomes, with the aim of strengthening student confidence, conceptual understanding, and academic performance. Support is adapted to individual needs, whether students are building foundational knowledge or preparing for SACs and the VCE final examination.

Lessons prioritise conceptual clarity, enabling students to confidently approach complex problems and recognise links across different areas of chemistry. Sessions also encourage critical thinking and scientific literacy, including discussion of sustainable chemistry, circular economy principles, and real-world applications. Study plans are aligned with the VCE Chemistry curriculum, with particular emphasis on developing intuitive understanding of core topics such as stoichiometry and thermochemistry (Unit 2), and their connections to acid–base chemistry, chemical equilibrium, redox reactions, and electrochemistry. Focus is also given to organic and inorganic chemistry, including group element reactivity, and supporting students to clearly communicate scientific understanding through structured formats such as scientific posters (Unit 4).

I employ a step-by-step teaching approach supported by interactive explanations and worked examples, often contextualised through real-world challenges linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students receive targeted exam strategies, personalised practice questions, and regular feedback, with key takeaways provided after each session to monitor progress and address areas for improvement.

Lessons are offered both online and in person. Online sessions utilise digital tools such as interactive whiteboards and chemistry visualisation software (e.g. ChemDraw) to support understanding of molecular structures, VSEPR theory, and reaction mechanisms. In-person sessions incorporate physical models, including custom-built ball-and-stick models. My goal is to make chemistry logical, accessible, and achievable, while helping students improve academic outcomes and develop long-term confidence in the subject.
