About Jackson
I am a freshman neuroscience student at Virginia Tech with a strong academic background in biology. I earned my IB Diploma in high school and wrote my Extended Essay in biology, which gave me a solid foundation in scientific writing, research skills, and biological concepts. I’ve continued to perform well in my college biology class, and I bring that experience directly into my teaching.
I try to make my tutoring as personalized as possible. I focus on what each student needs, whether that’s mastering a specific topic, preparing for an exam, or building long-term study habits. I teach biology by showing how each idea connects to larger systems, which helps students understand the subject instead of memorizing disconnected facts. This approach is what helped me build confidence and allowed me to better on tests even when I didn't have the actual answer memorized.
I also teach the study techniques that helped me succeed in IB Biology and in college—how to take effective notes, how to review material efficiently, and how to approach tests with a calm, organized strategy. Students learn both the content and the skills they need to thrive academically.
My lessons are ideal for middle-school science, high-school Biology/Honors/AP/IB, and introductory college biology. I’m professional, reliable, and committed to helping students feel confident and capable in biology.

Teaching Method & Techniques
I teach biology in a way that’s easy to follow and personalized. I know each student learns differently, so I can adjust each lesson to what they need. I teach by topic based on what the student needs help with, but I always show how it connects to other systems and to biology as a whole since I found this helped me actually understand instead of just memorizing.
I also share other study habits and tricks that helped me succeed in high-school IB Biology and in my college biology class. Students should learn both the content and new tricks to make them successful.
Typical Lesson Plan
-Check-in to see what the student needs help with
-Explain the topic/problems they are having trouble with simply and clearly
-Connections to other systems so the student sees the bigger picture
-Go over more practice problems or diagrams we work through together
-Provide study tips as they work that they can use right away
-Short review to make sure everything makes sense
-Next steps so they know exactly what to do before the next lesson
