About Kristen

Kristen began studying piano at 5 years old and singing at 9 years old and has continued to nurture her passion throughout her entire life. She received a Bachelors degree from Western Washington University in Vocal Performance and a Masters degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Vocal Performance. She was trained opera technique throughout school, but is equally at home in Musical Theater and Operetta. Some favorite roles include Phoebe in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder and Papagena in The Magic Flute. She was recently cast as Marian in The Music Man and Maria in The Sound of Music but performances were canceled due to COVID-19.

Kristen loves to share her excitement and enthusiasm with her students! She has 9 years of private instruction experience and has worked with over 200 students privately in voice and piano.

About the lesson

Everyone takes music lessons for different reasons and it is my job to cater to those needs! Whether it's starting off with no experience or getting back into it after a long break, I am here to help! I prioritize a lot of music theory and technique in lessons to assure you are getting the most well rounded music education possible. I also assist with creating a realistic practice routine for my students to help them be as successful as possible!

Perfect! We started using Kristen as a voice tutor for my 12 year old during quarantine. Despite being virtual, the lessons are engaging, personal and fun. My daughter loves working with Kristen and there are noticeable improvements after each 30 minute lesson. I also like that she recommends songs for her that compliment her voice and range. She helps her sing with guitar and ukulele, as well as annotate her own music. I would highly recommend Kristen; she has made lessons during this time something my daughter looks forward to each week.

My children's experience with Kristen as their piano instructor has been wonderful! She is very knowledgeable and patient. She challenges my children, but with kindness and respect. My children look forward to their lessons, and to spending time with her. Thank you Kristen!

When our previous piano teacher moved away we tried a few teachers and chose Kristen. We think she is fantastic with our kids. She compliments before jumping to how to improve and engages with the kids at the right level. She breaks down a problem into parts my kids can understand and accomplish. My kids also learn music theory and have gained a better understanding of what they play. Both my kids have improved tremendously and think Kristen is a great teacher.
